Jailer 2 Box Office Collection Day 14: Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 witnessed a further dip in its box office collections on its second Wednesday. After an exceptional second weekend, the film’s earnings fell by over 60% on Monday, with the downward trend continuing on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Day 14, the film earned just Rs 4.22 crore across 7,914 shows, recording a disappointing occupancy rate of 15%.

The film earned the bulk of its collections from the Tamil version, which contributed Rs 2.49 crore. This was followed by Rs 1.04 crore from the Telugu version and Rs 69 lakh from the Hindi version. The film has earned total India gross collections of Rs 492.13 crore and total India net of Rs 420.42 crore so far. Jailer 2 earned Rs 2.50 crore overseas, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 260.50 crore and total worldwide box office collection to Rs 755.50 crore.

Despite the recent slowdown, Jailer 2 has broken several box office records. In Kerala, the film has surpassed the lifetime collection of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2, earning Rs 72.85 crore and becoming the highest-grossing non-Malayalam film in the state’s box office history.

The film has also crossed Rs 730 crore worldwide within two weeks of its release, overtaking the lifetime global collection of Rajinikanth’s 2.0, which had held the Tamil cinema worldwide box office record since 2018.

With this feat, Jailer 2 has also become the first Tamil film to cross the Rs 700 crore mark globally.

Jailer 2 is the sequel to Rajinikanth’s 2023 film Jailer and continues the story from where its predecessor left off. While Rajinikanth’s trademark screen presence and swagger have drawn audiences to theatres, the supporting cast has also received appreciation.

Actors Namo Narayanan and Yogi Babu, in particular, have been praised for holding their own alongside the superstar and delivering several memorable moments. Blending action, drama, comedy and emotion, the film has positioned itself as a family entertainer.

Jailer 2 has another week to continue its theatrical run before the arrival of Ramayana, which is scheduled to release worldwide in multiple languages on November 5.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, currently running across 9,955 shows, has collected Rs 4.79 crore net as of 9 pm on Thursday.

User Reasonable_Office_28 posted on Reddite, “Unpopular opinion, but Jailer 2 is absolute brainrot and is in the lines of GBU. The pregnant woman scene felt incredibly forced, and honestly, the whole thing just felt like a 2-hour Instagram Reel. If this was an AK movie, it would be getting absolutely dragged down right now, but it gets a pass just because of Rajini.”

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, currently running across 7,536 shows, has collected Rs 3.38 crore net as of 6 pm on Thursday.

At a recent event, producer Kalaipuli S Thanu said, “Jailer 2 will earn a distributor share of over Rs 125 crore in Tamil Nadu alone. That means the film’s total collections in the state will reach Rs 250 crore. I watched the film with my family at Sathyam Cinemas and later spoke to Thalaivar (Rajinikanth). I told him that audiences were enjoying every single moment of the film.”

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2, currently running across 6,921 shows, has collected Rs 2.98 crore net as of 5 pm on Thursday.

The coming fortnight will be crucial for Jailer 2 as several new releases prepare to compete for screens during the festive period. Ramayana: Part 1 is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 5, followed by Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 on November 6. According to reports from the Tamil Nadu trade, exhibitors will face a challenge in accommodating all the films, with prime shows likely to go to titles that generate the strongest audience response. Jailer 2 is also expected to retain a sizeable number of screens during the festival. Early interest in Ramayana has reportedly been stronger for its Hindi version, while bookings for the Tamil version had not opened when the reports emerged.

The biggest difference between Jailer 2 and 2.0 lies in their Hindi-market performance. While 2.0, starring Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, benefited from a wide Hindi release and collected approximately Rs 225 crore gross from the Hindi market, Jailer 2 has earned around Rs 51 crore Hindi gross in 14 days. Despite restrictions on its Hindi release amid the OTT-window dispute with major multiplex chains, Jailer 2 has amassed Rs 495 crore gross in India, putting it just Rs 24 crore short of 2.0’s lifetime collection of Rs 519 crore. The achievement highlights the Rajinikanth-starrer’s strong performance, driven primarily by its Tamil and Telugu markets, as it closes in on the milestone.

According to trade site Sacnilk, Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 collected Rs 391.55 crore gross in India during its first eight-day extended week, followed by Rs 103.45 crore over the next six days, taking its 14-day total to Rs 495 crore. The film maintained a strong hold over its second weekend, with collections rising from Rs 17 crore on Friday to Rs 28.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 30.05 crore on Sunday. The three-day total of Rs 75.30 crore gross was around 46% of its opening Friday-to-Sunday weekend collection, despite the absence of the festive boost that supported its initial run. However, weekday collections subsequently declined, falling from Rs 11 crore on Monday to Rs 7.55 crore on Wednesday. The upcoming weekend will therefore be crucial in determining whether the Rajinikanth-starrer can sustain its box office momentum.

Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2 has collected Rs 2.12 crore net in India on Day 15 so far, running across 5,180 shows. This takes the film’s total India gross collection to Rs 497.50 crore and India net collection to Rs 425.12 crore.

Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth, the elder daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, visited the Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday morning, October 29, to offer prayers to Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy. Keep shining on like the most special super duper star you are! You are in my prayers every single moment, to keep giving this kind of joy and happiness to millions again and again and yet again. #jailer2 Grateful and blessed.”

Action director Chethan D’Souza revealed that Rajinikanth suggested a leg-on-face moment during his confrontation with SJ Suryah to make the scene more impactful. “Sound and performance allow the audience to feel the violence, leaving room for the imagination to complete what is not shown. Rajini sir even suggested a leg-on-face moment to make the scene more impactful,” he said. D’Souza admitted that he was initially worried about how fans would react to the sequence, but director Nelson and Rajinikanth encouraged him to go ahead. Although the shot was difficult to execute, the superstar’s willingness to attempt it helped the team overcome the challenge.

In Jailer 2, action director Chethan D’Souza focused on the superstar Rajinikanth’s signature style and screen presence while designing the action sequences. Chethan shared in an interview with the New Indian Express, “Since I’ve been a fan boy, I’ve seen what works for him and what doesn’t. So when Rajini sir makes even a hand movement, it garners noise. People expect style and swag out of what he does, and we had to focus on that,” he said.

The expected guest list includes Jailer 2 star Rajinikanth, Anirudh’s uncle Kamal Haasan, AR Rahman, director Nelson Dilipkumar, Sivakarthikeyan, Ajith Kumar and Allu Arjun. Music composer Anirudh Ravichander, who recently worked in Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2, and Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO Kavya Maran have reportedly sparked wedding buzz, with their Chennai reception invitation drawing attention online. Although neither the couple nor their families have officially confirmed the wedding, the invite has generated considerable curiosity about the celebrations. In an interview with Mid-day, invitation designer Ranjini Iyengar revealed that the couple wanted an elegant, understated design featuring a wooden box with 3D elements in blue and white. Explaining the thought behind the invitation, she said, “We wanted to do a box with 3D elements, but also something people will keep because Anirudh and Kavya were sure their guests got a lot of boxes day in and day out. At the same time we wanted it to be understated and not go overboard with colours.”

He shared, “The film has been drawing audiences across domestic and overseas markets, further strengthening its worldwide box office performance.”

Cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan has explained how the Jailer franchise uses visual storytelling to create its mass moments rather than relying solely on punchlines. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, he cited the tissue box scene in the first film and the sequence in which Rajinikanth pulls out a weapon from beneath a car seat as examples of how visuals shape the audience’s experience. “In the early 2000s, I enjoyed listening to movies that got played on the radio. The same movie that was made for the theatre would later be played on the radio, and you could clearly make sense of the entire story, even without seeing it. But a film like Jailer won’t work as a “radio play”. Can you imagine ‘listening’ to the tea shop scene from Jailer 2?,” he shared.

Cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan has revealed that the team behind Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer 2 decided to retain some of the original film’s visual elements while changing its lighting patterns. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Vijay said the team was initially concerned that making the sequel look too different could alienate viewers who loved the first film. They therefore retained the use of centre framing while experimenting with lighting. He also explained that the film’s grounded visual style influenced the choice of locations, with the team avoiding an overly lush or lavish look while filming in Kerala. Locations such as Kozhikode and Attappadi were chosen to ensure the setting felt authentic to the story.

KGF star Yash once expressed his admiration for Rajinikanth, naming the Jailer 2 actor among the biggest stars who have inspired him. In a 2022 interview, Yash spoke about several of his role models, including Shankar Nag, Ambareesh, Dr Rajkumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Clint Eastwood. He said, “I had many role models. I am a huge fan of Shankar Nag, Ambareesh, Dr Rajkumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Clint Eastwood’s films and several other stars. I get inspired by them. I get influenced by Rajini sir a lot.” Yash, who plays Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana: Part 1.
