Jana Nayagan Box Office Collection Day 2 Update: Actor-politician Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan opened strongly at the box office, earning Rs 42.7 crore net in India on its first day. However, the movie witnessed a sharp drop in collections on Friday. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, Jana Nayagan earned Rs 21.15 crore net on its second day, taking its total India collection to Rs 63.85 crore. Worldwide, the movie has earned Rs 112.50 crore.
The film recorded an overall occupancy of 44.33% on Friday, with 32.77% occupancy in the morning shows, 37.23% in the afternoon, 47% in the evening, and 60.31% during the night shows.
Recently, director H Vinoth talked about the response to Jana Nayagan. He told Rangaraj Pandey, “Whenever a Vijay sir movie comes out, for about a week people say this is good, that isn’t good, this doesn’t work, that doesn’t, and all that. Then after a week, they say it’s not that great after all. Six months later, it starts becoming a big hit in society.”
Vinoth added, “It’s a really important movie in Tamil Nadu’s film industry. For me, it’s kind of like a real dream, like being right in the middle of those two worlds.”
Jana Nayagan marks the end of Vijay’s three-decade long career, spanning over 60 films. The movie, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. It released in theatres on July 23.
Jana Nayagan is currently playing across 8,317 shows nationwide and has collected a net of Rs 14.74 crore on Day 3, going by live estimates.
With this, the film’s total India net collection stands at Rs 78.59 crore, while its India gross has crossed the Rs 92 crore mark, at Rs 92.39 crore. Final numbers for Day 3 are still awaited.
Fans from Japan flew to India to witness the first-day, first show of Jana Nayagan, marking actor-turned-politician Vijay’s final film. According to reports, they had been saving money for months to make the trip and be part of the historic moment.
Jana Nayagan crossed the Rs 10 crore mark on Day 3 by 4 pm, continuing its steady run at the box office. The film’s total India net collection has now reached Rs 74 crore.
Jana Nayagan earned Rs 6.03 crore across 5,967 shows, recording an overall 28% occupancy. The bulk of the collection came from the Tamil version, which contributed Rs 5.51 crore, while the Hindi and Telugu versions continued to struggle to gain momentum.

Some fans have claimed that videos related to Jana Nayagan are being taken down over copyright concerns. One user on X alleged that the film’s makers are issuing copyright strikes against fan uploads. The user wrote, “Has anyone else received a copyright strike or takedown from the Jana Nayagan team? I posted just a 15-second video, and it was removed. Has this happened to anyone else? If you’ve had a similar experience, please share what happened and how you handled it.”
Jana Nayagan earns Rs 1.21 crore so far on its third day across 1789 shows with an occupancy of 26.6%.
An user on X wrote: “Except for the title card which says Thalapathy CM Vijay and some edited visuals from his assembly speech, the movie is a disaster. Major embarrassment for CM Vijay due to actor Vijay.”
While Jana Nayagan underwent multiple cuts in India, the UK cleared the film without any edits. A clip from the uncensored overseas version has now gone viral on social media. It shows Vijay with “TVK” etched on his hand while walking with a book featuring BR Ambedkar on its cover. Sharing the clip, a fan wrote, “Jana Nayagan uncensored, unchanged version in overseas.”
Actress Sanam Shetty was asked to leave the stage after she brought up Jana Nayagan while addressing the ongoing NEET protest in Chennai. During her speech, she said, “Political protesters are jokers. I am a Vijay fan. I came here after watching Jana Nayagan FDFS.” Her remarks were met with loud boos from the protesting students, prompting Shetty to respond, “This is not democracy. Every citizen has the right to freedom of speech.”
As the booing continued, the organisers took the mic away from her and requested that she leave the stage.
On Day 2, Jana Nayagan witnessed a sharp drop at the box office, earning nearly half of its opening-day collection. The film collected Rs 21.15 crore in India, recording an overall 29% occupancy across 12,190 shows.
